The Children’s Heart Network believes that families are the best support for other families. Trained resource parents offer parent-to-parent support so that patients’ families can talk to trained resource parents who have been there and can listen and offer support, advice and information.
To help families and children connect and support one another, social events and summer camps are held for children from across the province to attend.
You can learn more about Resource Parents through Children’s Heart Network here.
Hearts of Gold gives opportunities for youth ages 13 to 19 to meet, learn, and have fun with other youth who have experienced growing up with heart disease.
There are two Hearts of Gold groups, one in the Lower Mainland and one in Victoria. Kristi Coldwell is our Hearts of Gold coordinator for the Lower Mainland, and Krista Molia is our Hearts of Gold coordinator for Vancouver Island. Both Kristi and Krista are child life specialists with considerable experience working with youth. They plan and supervise all events and help youth who are new to the group connect with new friends and become comfortable to ensure everyone has a great time.
If your child is between the ages of 13 and 19, contact Hearts of Gold for more information and to add your name to our email list to receive information about monthly events.
The Western Canadian Children’s Heart Network (WCCHN) is dedicated to supporting children with heart conditions and their families. The network brings together five children’s hospitals across four provinces with one central goal: to provide world-class care and support, when it matters most.
